What we design and build

Six kinds of work, all of them in service of one quiet garden.

Garden design and plans

A drawn plan of stone, planting, paths and water, with a written scope. It is the part of the work you can hold, change and keep.

  • Site walk and measured drawing

  • Planting list with sun and moisture needs

  • Plan reviewed with you before it is final

Stone, gravel and paths

Dry gardens with raked gravel, stepping stones, boulder groupings, steps and low walls, set on a base that drains and stays put.

  • Stones chosen by hand with you

  • Gravel areas that can be raked

  • Steps and paths with safe footing

Water features

Basins, streams and small ponds that suit the size of the yard. We plan the pump, the edge and the cleaning before we dig.

  • Basins, streams and ponds

  • Pump and plumbing planned for access

  • Edges set so the water looks natural

Planting and pruning

Maples, pines, azaleas, ferns, moss and ground covers, chosen for Portland shade and rain, then shaped by hand over the years.

  • Trees and shrubs for your light

  • Moss and ground cover for shade

  • Hand pruning for shape, not hedging

Fences, screens and gates

Bamboo and cedar screens, simple gates and low fences that frame a view, hide one, or set the garden apart from the rest of the yard.

  • Screens that frame or hide

  • Gates and entries

  • Materials that weather well

Seasonal garden care

Visits at the turn of each season to prune, rake, clean water and tend moss. The first year is part of the plan; after that it is yours to book.

  • Four visits a year, on the calendar

  • Pruning, raking and water care

  • Notes for what you do between visits

Next step

Not sure which of these you need?

Most gardens start with a visit. We walk the yard, listen and tell you what we would do.
